Wychavon hands over £32,500 grant

A Wychavon District Council grant of £32,500 has been handed over to Evesham Rowing Club, marking the next stage in the £500,000-plus redevelopment at the club, which started two months ago.
The ceremony was preceded by a guided tour of the work in progress conducted by architect Mr Patrick Burton and attended by Wychavon’s chair of the grants working group, Mr Rob Banks and community development manager, Mr Jem Teal as well as club officials and representatives of the Lawn Tennis Association. Mr Banks congratulated the Club on its efforts to provide additional facilities to the residents of Evesham and Wychavon, and added that Wychavon District Council was delighted to be able to provide financial assistance to the project.
Improvements include the building of a new gymnasium, weights room and changing rooms, with full access for the disabled, including ramps and a lift. Outside, three new floodlit acrylic tennis courts are to be built alongside the current hard courts - doubling the all-weather tennis facilities. Work on the courts is set to start next May, after the Regatta, and is planned for completion by June 2006.
The popular function room, with balcony overlooking the river, is to be completely refurbished with new kitchen and will once again offer an attractive setting for weddings, parties and conferences. This is a separate project being run by volunteer club members.
