Evesham’s GB junior rower, Emma Woodedd, won her first major race last Saturday at the prestigious Metropolitan Regatta.

The coxless four crew was made up of junior rowers selected by the Great Britain coaching team and were entered in the women’s elite category - the top level in rowing. Rowing in a straight final against crews from Scotland, London and Nottingham, the youngsters, aged 17 and 18, were delighted to have beaten some of Britain’s best senior rowers.

The Metropolitan Regatta is held at the world-class Dorney Lake, a 2km purpose built rowing lake which will shortly host the World Rowing Championships. Emma’s crew faced a tough challenge and were down at the start of the race. After 500m the crew were in third place creeping into second at the 1000m mark. With just 500m to go the girls took the lead easily and held this position finishing over three seconds ahead of their nearest rivals, Scottish Rowing Association.

At the end of the month, Emma goes to Nottingham for trials where she is hoping to be chosen to represent her country in the Junior World Championships in Holland later in the summer. All at Evesham Rowing Club wish her good luck.
