Evesham juniors saw action at the weekend for the selection races to represent the West Midlands at the Junior Inter-regional Championships in April. Selection races were held at Worcester over a 2,500 metre course. Eight Evesham crews were selected to represent the region.

The coxed quad of Chloe Bryan, Ruth Whyman, Helen Stirrup and Lucy Palmer (coxed by Colleen Penrose) qualified in the J15 event, while Bryan and Stirrup also won the WJ15 doubles event.

The J14 coxed quad of Jack Lazenby, Dominic Murphy, Jamie Sellick and Lawrence Sullivan (coxed by Zoe Thomas) beat their nearest rivals by eleven seconds to qualify for selection.

Ben Farrar and Jon Farrar were formidable opponents in the J15 doubles event, which they won with ease. The Farrar boys also saw action in the coxed four (with James Crumpton, Josh Pendry and cox Lazenby) beating their opposition by 45 seconds.

There was a win, too, for the J15 boys’ coxed quad of Alex Shirra, Adam Shirra, Tom Noble and Rob Barnett (coxed by Holly Giles). Oli Staite won the J16 single sculls event with six seconds to spare over his club mate Rory Sullivan. Will Tew and Danny Middleton were also selected for the J16 doubles event.

These junior crews will race for their region on Saturday April 21st at the National Watersports’ Centre at Holme Pier Point, Nottingham.

Worcester Head of the River was the scene of a victory for another Evesham junior coxed crew recently when Matthew Murphy, Jordan Bunyan, Fred Hardman, and Dan Walker won the novice men’s coxless quad event.
