Evesham Rowing Club is best in the country for juniors

Evesham’s junior rowers won a record-breaking 100 events over the 2005-2006 season, the best in the country according to figures just released by the Amateur Rowing Association.
The century of wins puts Evesham well clear of clubs with traditionally strong junior rowing sections such as Maidenhead, Marlow and the Tideway Scullers. Evesham’s junior co-ordinator Robin Walker said he was delighted with the hard work put in by junior coaches and the junior rowers: “This is fantastic news – we have been setting our sights on achieving similar standards to the current top junior clubs like Marlow, Maidenhead and Windsor Boys, and to have surpassed them in terms of wins is a major step, and tribute to the hard work by all the coaches, the athletes and the club management.”
Highlights of the 2006 season:
- Emma Woodedd was selected to represent Great Britain in the Coupe de la Jeunesse in The Netherlands, where she won gold medals in the eight and the four. In the eight Britain rowed the 2,000m course in a time of 6.42.09 beating crews from Italy and the Netherlands. In the four the 7.12.69 time put them well ahead of crews from Spain and Italy.
- Gold medal for the J15 double of Rory Sullivan and Oli Staite in the National Championships of Great Britain
- Bronze for the J14 coxed quad of Tom Noble, Rob Barnett, Ben Farrar and Jon Farrar (cox Jack Lazenby) in the National Championships of Great Britain.
- Evesham’s J16 girls four of Cherie Gayton, Emma Woodedd, Sara Howe and Chloe Farrar (coxed by Rachel Hegarty) won the National Junior Head of the River 2006.
