Evesham Junior Head

Evesham Rowing Club held its first rowing event since the July floods and welcomed 60+ crews to compete in the annual Junior Head of the River.
A number of records tumbled as conditions were excellent for rowing - with still water and little wind.
Chloe Bryan and Colleen Penrose rowing in the WJ16 double, clocked a record 8.14 minutes over the 1,900 metre course, well ahead of their nearest rivals from Ross Rowing Club. There was a record too for J16 double scullers Rob Barnett and Jordan Bunyan who rowed the course in 7.32 ahead of club mates Fred Dunham and Tom Swarbrick who picked up a silver medal for their 8.12 minute row. Jordan Bunyan also won gold in the J16 singles event.
Other record breakers were the J14 coxed quad of Andre Roberts, Robert Bonham, Lewis Giles and Ed Surman (cox John Rowland) and Yasmin Tredell, WJ15 single sculler. Yasmin broke the record by rowing 8.56 minutes, unfortunately she was just one second behind Camilla Hadland from Stratford Boat Club so had to be content with a silver medal. Both girls were nearly a minute ahead of the rest of the field.
Olivia Walklett was successful in her single with a gold at WJ14 against a competitive field. At J15 the coxed quad of Jack Lazenby, Andrew Uncles, Jamie Sellick and Henry House (coxed by Dominic Murphy) won gold in a time of 7.57 having fended off rival crews from Hereford and Bideford Amateur Rowing Club.
