Gold for Great Britain and Evesham

Posted on July 15, 2008 | Filed under Rowing

Two Evesham juniors won gold medals at the annual GB-France Match for junior 16 rowers. Ben Farrar and Jon Farrar were chosen to row in the eights event after a gruelling selection process in Nottingham. The boys were part of a four-strong Evesham contingent that were selected to row for their country – junior 16 girls Yasmin Tredell and Ruth Whyman were also selected to compete in a double scull.

The Farrar brothers joined rowers from Abingdon School and Bedford Modern School for the race – with just two days to prepare for the international regatta held in France. Both eights stormed off the start and raced neck and neck down the course. The British crew pulled ahead in the final stages to win by three-quarters of a length and a gold medal.

The girls’ crew of Tredell and Whyman got off to a poor start in their race and did not manage to close the gap, losing to a competent French crew
