Fantastic river conditions, sunshine, and high spirits.
The first win of the day came from Veteran D double scullers David
Pollard and Tony Rowlands, who rowed in good style to cross the line
easily before their opposition.
Next up were double scullers Dan Walker and Tom Leighton, who reigned
victorious after beating a strong Hereford Cathedral crew in their final to
lose their novice sculling status.
There was also a win for senior four single sculler Terry MacDonald
beating Bradford-on-Avon by one-and-a-quarter lengths, and there was
another senior four win for Stacey Allen against Avon County who kept a
convincing lead throughout the rest and crossed the line comfortably
ahead.
Abi Penrose had a battle on her hands in the straight final of women’s J18
singles, coming up against club rival Stacey Allen. The pressure was on
and as the finish line drew closer Penrose was forced to up her stroke
rating time and again in a bid to stay ahead, which she duly did, scraping
a lead of one quarter of a length.
