Evesham Rowing Club have just completed their first Regional Junior Tennis Event. The ‘LTA Grade 4 Event’ attracted players from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire and the Midlands to the Abbey Road venue.

The event enjoyed some top class tennis and also some local successes. Evesham Rowing Club’s Robert Noble reached the final of the U14’s and Michael Macleod went one better by winning the 8 and under event – beating Evesham resident Daniel Walker in the final (please see pictures below. 1. U14 boys, 2. Michael Macleod with Head Coach Andy Crowther and assistant Jack Neville, 3. 9 and under competitors with Andy and Jack). Other notable successes included Harry Walduck’s (Wiltshire) double – winning the U14 and U12 events and the Platt twins – Millie and Harry (Warwickshire) winning the 9 and under girls and boys competitions respectively.

Head coach Andrew Crowther comments: “It was a fantastic achievement for the club to host such a competition for the very first time. We look forward to building on the success of the event next year. In particular the event has highlighted to the local players how good the standard can be. We will be training hard over the next year to produce more champions in 2011.”

The club’s coaching and competition programme goes from strength to strength with many children attending the summer camps in preparation for the start of the new term’s course in September. New sessions have been added - including some Mini Red starter sessions at Evesham Leisure Centre – to attract and unearth further potential.
