Big changes at Evesham Regattas

Karndean International (Designer Floorcoverings) are the new major sponsors for Evesham’s Annual and Sprint Regattas (3rd and 4th May). Evesham RC and Karndean are discusssing a long-term partnership agreement.

There is plenty else that is new for ‘Evesham 2008′ - designed to improve significantly on 2007.

Racing in divisions

2 divisions on each day. No doubling up of any kind within a division: i.e. of competitors (including coxes) or equipment. A competitor can only double up on the day by entering one event in each division. The events within each division are pre-specified. Award ceremonies will take place after each division to reduce waiting time.

Upper Limits on accepted Entries

Only about 250 entries will be accepted for Saturday’s Regatta and 300 for the Sunday. Saturday’s racing over the 1,000m course will be open to J14s and above only. Events for younger rower and mixed crews will be available on the Sunday. These changes are designed to allow room for river traffic and other unavoidable delays.

OARA Entry & Streamlined Registration:

OARA Entry only - available from early April. A club registration pack will be presented to one representative of each visiting club on the day. This will contain all numbers and instructions for that club. Any substitutions on the day must, of course, be notified. Only crews reaching finals will be required to present their ARA racing licenses. Spot checks of licenses may take place.

Revised Incident Procedures

The 2007 Regattas saw a large number of capsizes that resulted in long delays to racing (well over 2 hours over the 2 days). Casualty removal was fast but boat removal and getting safety boats back on station was not. Roles and responsibilities have been revised and a team has been allocated to remove boats at several points along the course.

The organisers believe that these fundamental changes will result in a to-time and, most importantly, an enjoyable experience for all our visitors. Feedback to erc@evesham-rowing-club.co.uk after the event will be appreciated.
